Learn More about Scottish BMX School

Scottish BMX School was created following the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, where founder Reece Thomson competed in BMX Flatland. Since then, the school has grown from individual coaching into a team delivering BMX events, workshops and experiences across Scotland.

A key part of that growth has been Erin Finnigan, an experienced BMX rider and Scottish Cycling-qualified coach who works alongside Reece across Scottish BMX School events and coaching. Erin brings extensive experience in BMX freestyle and a passion for making the sport more accessible, particularly for girls and women getting into BMX.

Together with our wider team of BMX riders and coaches, we’ve worked with local authorities, schools, charities, cycling organisations, festivals and major brands, delivering everything from grassroots community sessions to large public events.

Our work has included the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games programme, Sky’s Family Fun Day, Edinburgh Festival of Cycling, South Ayrshire cycling projects and BMX events across Scotland. Reece and Erin have also represented Scottish BMX School together through coaching, events and media appearances.

Today, we deliver BMX events, lessons, demonstrations and workshops for family fun days, active travel programmes, schools, festivals, community cycling projects and major sporting events.

At the heart of Scottish BMX School is making BMX accessible. We use the sport to help people develop bike skills, confidence, creativity and resilience, while creating a welcoming environment for riders of different ages, backgrounds and abilities.

From introducing a child to BMX for the first time to delivering at some of Scotland’s biggest events, we’re working to grow BMX participation and create memorable cycling experiences across Scotland and beyond.
