About Scottish BMX School
Our Origin Story
The Scottish BMX School was created in 2023 after the Glasgow UCI Championships.
With the government, public, and other cyclists seeing BMX flatland in action during the championships, it has spurred on a desire to see the sport expand and be a key tool for promoting cycling as a whole to the younger generation.
What We Do
The Scottish BMX School alongside its partners and stakeholders offers BMX flatland coaching for all ages.
We offer coaching for individuals and groups, catering to all skill levels, from beginner lessons through to more advanced coaching sessions.
About Reece Thomson
Who Am I?
I’m the creator of Scottish BMX School. I’ve been riding bikes as long as I can remember, and I have 15+ years of experience with with flatland.
I was hooked when I first saw what others were able to do with their bike on a flat surface. Not needing to head to skateparks or buy ramps (or get my parents to buy them) meant this was a super accessible way for me to get into BMX properly.
Fast forward a decade or so and I found myself displaying my skills on the international stage, at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships. A dream come true!
Why Did I Start Scottish BMX School?
Flatland BMX hasn’t always had a place in massive events like the UCI World Cycling Championships. And growing up there weren’t a whole lot of other people around me that were into it.
But taking part in events and connecting with some truly amazing riders all over the world has shown me how passionate a community there is behind this lesser-known category of cycling.
And it has inspired me to help grow the world of flatland by helping the younger generation understand just how much fun it can be. And it’s a great way to stay active in the process!
It’s an incredibly rewarding feeling to nail a trick for the first time. But even better is the feeling when you help someone else achieve that, and this is exactly what the Scottish BMX School is all about.
