Reece Thomson – Founder & Head BMX Coach

Reece Thomson is the founder of Scottish BMX School and an experienced BMX Flatland rider, coach and event organiser, with more than 15 years of experience in BMX. After competing in BMX Flatland at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow, Reece created Scottish BMX School with the aim of making BMX more accessible and bringing professional BMX coaching and experiences to communities across Scotland. Since then, Reece has led the growth of Scottish BMX School from individual lessons into a team delivering BMX events, workshops, demonstrations and major public projects across Scotland. His work has included the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games programme, Sky's Family Fun Day, Edinburgh Festival of Cycling, active travel projects, school sessions, festivals and community events. Alongside organising events, Reece continues to perform BMX Flatland professionally. His experience allows Scottish BMX School to combine live BMX demonstrations with hands-on participation, giving audiences the chance to watch professional riding before getting on a BMX and learning for themselves. Reece also works directly with councils, event organisers, cycling organisations, charities and businesses to design BMX activities around their audiences and objectives. This can range from a small community workshop to a large-scale public event involving multiple BMX riders and coaches. Today, Reece leads Scottish BMX School alongside Erin and the wider team, with a focus on growing BMX participation, creating opportunities for riders and establishing BMX as an exciting addition to events, active travel programmes and community cycling projects across Scotland and beyond.

Erin Finnigan – BMX Coach & Events Lead

Erin Finnigan is a key member of the Scottish BMX School team, bringing her experience as a BMX rider, coach and advocate for female participation to our events and coaching across Scotland. A Scottish Cycling-qualified BMX coach, Erin works with riders of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners getting on a BMX for the first time to riders looking to develop their skills and confidence. Her friendly approach helps create sessions that are welcoming, supportive and accessible. Erin is also the founder of The Gorlz BMX, a community connecting and supporting female BMX riders across Scotland, creating more opportunities for women and girls to meet, ride together and become part of the BMX community. Within Scottish BMX School, Erin has grown from coaching alongside the team to planning, leading and delivering her own BMX events through SBS. This has included female-focused BMX sessions and events designed to encourage more women and girls to try BMX, alongside her involvement in our wider programme of community and public events. Erin has also played an important role in some of Scottish BMX School's biggest projects, including our work with Sky and the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games programme. Her combination of riding ability, coaching experience and event delivery has made her a major part of how Scottish BMX School has grown. Today, Erin works alongside Reece and our wider team delivering BMX events, workshops, lessons, family fun days, active travel projects and major public events across Scotland, while continuing to create new opportunities for female participation in BMX.
